On a part of the beachRitthem, about 3 km east of Vlissingen, has been getting naked for decades recreated. In 2006, the mayor and aldermen van Vlissingen proposed this part of the beach at Ritthem as suitable for nude recreation. Mainly due to opposition from the Ritthem Village Committee the proposal was not adopted by the municipal council and was Nude recreation is prohibited in the entire municipality of Vlissingen. Thanks to efforts of the NFN, the municipality of Vlissingen on April 26, 2007 the ban was revoked again. The nude recreation ban in the beach memorandum has been changed to: “In the municipality of Vlissingen, no areas such as suitable for nude recreation”.
The Ritthem Village Committee formed the municipality of Vlissingen in March 2011 asked to tackle this site legally, because it is nudist recreation promotes on the beach at Ritthem while this would be prohibited here.
Closer examination of this site shows that both the Municipality Vlissingen as the Ritthem Village Committee (consciously?) invokes it outdated nudist recreation ban.
Ultimately, the municipality of Vlissingen decided not to act against nude recreationists on the beach at Ritthem, because as a verbalized nude recreationist goes to court, the chances are very high is that it is vindicated.
The beach at Ritthem consists of two separate beach areas: the beach at the Fort Rammekens breakwater and the beach at the caisson Rammekenshoek. On the last mentioned beach it is located at the height of the dune area recreated naked (east side). Recreation in the dune area is not allowed. The war memorial is approximately the dividing line between the nude and the textile part.
The beach is located on a kind of bay, which is largely dry at low tide falls, making the beach very extensive. The drying up beach area contains a lot of silt and loose debris.
There are no facilities on the beach. In the nature reserve Behind the nudist beach, recreation is prohibited. It is recommended to wear water shoes on the beach due to the presence of oyster shells, stones and rubble.
There is none on the nudist beach or in the immediate vicinity bath supervision available.
