View of the village with the lighthouse. The lighthouse "Vuurduin" is only 17 meters high, and stands on the highest dune (40 meters) of the Wadden Islands. The lighthouse can be climbed for a small fee.

The island has relatively many forests. The forests are mainly created to protect the village against the drifting sand.

On your way to the westernmost beach entrance you pass the cafe/hotel Het Posthuis. Nearby is also the Departure Point of the Vliehors Expres.
The last beach entrance, at the Lifeboat path. (Dam F).
The military training area De Vliehors. The site is only accessible on weekends when the red flag has been lowered. De Vliehors is the largest sand plain in Northwestern Europe (25 km?). A beautiful area for a long naturist walk.
An excursion to the Vliehors can be made with the Vliehors Expres. The Vliehors Express also provides transport to the jetty of the summer ferry service to Texel, at the very tip of the Vliehors.
