Due to the rise of tourism, Nieuw-Haamstede became built just before the Second World War as a district of Burgh-Haamstede. The village, with only one access road, consists almost entirely of holiday homes and therefore misses a cozy one village center. Nieuw-Haamstede is located in the extensive Kop van nature reserve Schouwen with 21 km of beach. Schouwen-Duiveland is the most northern peninsula of Zeeland and has two beach areas nude recreation is allowed. Nude recreation is permitted between poles12.5 and 14.8. (there are no poles on the beach, but this is roughly between beach stroke 8: "t' Old Fire" and beach stroke 6: "Domains 3"). It nudist beach was expanded by two beach sections (approximately 800 meters) on the south side in 2018, as compensation for the pilot "Smart use of sand". The area is indicated with signs. There are no facilities on the nudist beach. Very spacious distance to the north (1250 meters) is the beach pavilion De Strandloper, the only beach pavilion in Nieuw-Haamstede. Bee enough crowds, an ice cream truck also comes by. Especially on it southern, less busy beach area, near the Seagull dunes, many birds are found.
In the context of the pilot "Smart use of sand", the regular 4-yearly sand replenishment has been carried out 2016 about the part of the nudist beach and finds this one won't take place again until 2020. The underlying dune area is wide and high enough, so that coastal safety is not jeopardized. Through the cutting off the dunes and by removing the dunes they want the give nature more space and allow drifts in the dunes to resume bringing back the diversity of plants and animals increases. There is no bath supervision. The nearest rescue post is located at the beach entrance at the Rotonde Westenschouwen at approximately 3000 meters from the south side.
