Texel is the largest Wadden Island and has an area of ??approximately 170 square kilometers. It is the only non-Frisian Wadden Island. Due to the vastness of the island, the car is also a popular means of transport for day trippers. On the North Sea side you will find the vast nature of National Park Dunes of Texel with over 30 kilometers of beach.
There are 7 villages on the island, of which the centrally located Den Burg is by far the largest. The picturesque village of Oudeschild has a harbour for pleasure and commercial shipping. Tours across the Wad are organized from here.
The ferry does not arrive at this port, but at the northernmost point of the island just below Den Hoorn.
From Den Helder there is a departure every hour from 6.30 am to 9.30 pm. The boat leaves on the half hour. There is an hourly departure from Texel from 06:00 to 21:00. The boat departs on the hour. The 4.2 km crossing takes about 20 minutes. In high season there are also often extra departures, so that there is a half-hourly timetable.
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, an off-peak rate (30% discount) applies for motor vehicles. For more information, visit the site of Teso.

Unlike the other Wadden Islands, where nudity is usually tolerated on quiet beach sections, there are two official nude beaches here. In the APV article 5:38, the municipality of Texel has banned nudist recreation with the exception of two beach sections:

Nude recreation
Unlike the other Wadden Islands, where nudity is usually tolerated on quiet beach sections, there are two official nude beaches here. In the APV article 5:38, the municipality of Texel has banned nudist recreation with the exception of two beach sections:
Article 5:38 Prohibition on recreation in the nude
- Without prejudice to the provisions of Article 430a of the Criminal Code, it is prohibited to recreate naked in a public place.
- The prohibition applies not located on the beaches between the railings:
8 and 10.13, and
26.4 and 27.45
From numerous case law on article 430a DCC. it has become apparent that the municipality (council) only has the authority to designate places that are (without question) suitable for nude recreation. The local nudity ban is therefore not legally valid. On Texel, in addition to the two beach sections described here, many quiet places are suitable for nude recreation.

Campsite Loodsman duinen is located about two kilometers from the nudist beach Den Hoorn. At this campsite, a protected area is reserved for naturists. The naturist part has 100 places for tents, folding trailers and caravans.
According to the APV of Texel, nude recreation is allowed between the beach posts 10.13 and 8.00. The nudist beach part is on the beach signposted. (the end of the nudist beach is indicated here at pole 8.80). Nude recreation is not allowed in the dunes. On the south side of the nudist beach lies the vast sandy plain de Hors, where nude recreation prevents. This quiet area is only through the nudist beach or accessible via a few dune paths, so in principle also very suitable for nude recreation.
There are no beach pavilions or other facilities on the nudist beach.
At the beach entrance (approximately at pole 10) is the beach pavilion Post 9 and there is also a beach shop / snack bar on the beach.
Do not swim near the breakwaters. There can be strong currents here and the existing vegetation with mussels and chicken pox can cause serious cuts. There is no direct bath supervision on the nudist beach, the nearest rescue post is at the beach entrance at approx 300 meters away.
