General
The Groene Ster is a recreation area of approximately 1000 hectare, and
lies on the Eastern side of Leeuwarden. Since 1980 there has been a part
of the Groene Ster beach where nudity is permitted.
During a re vamp of the Groene Ster in 1995 a larger, more central, and
more open location was chosen. The full beach lays upon an island that
is about 3,5 hectare. South from the footpath is the official nudist
beach. On the other parts nude recreation is accepted. The nudist beach
has both sand beaches and laying meadows. On the nudist beach there are
no facilities, however approximately 700 meters away there is a kiosk(opened
daily in the summertime) and toilets.
The swimming water is also ideal for less capable swimmers as it has a
sloping bottom(0-2,50 deep) . There is no separate children’s section.
The clearness of the water is limited due to the silty, boggy underbed.
The nudist beach has its own
website which is
renewed daily with all the latest and up to date information.
